I advertise on kijiji and craigslist and I’ve had the exact same thing happen to me. I had a money order sent to my cottage address for a few thousand more. I never cashed it. I still have the cheque in my possession with the letter. I knew it was scam from the beginning, but thought I’d waste their time hoping for an idiot at the other side, but instead – they were mistaken.

We’ve gotten a few people interested in rentals but they all want us to send a check to a foreign company because they’re pulling a scam on craigslist.

I received just such an inquiry. Caught on right away.
Sent them info that was all lies. They sent the cheque.
I agreed to send them money back. I cashed the cheque at a Bank at which I was not an account holder. The amount that I was to send back to the Asian person was in the amount of $6,309.00. I hope he was as lucky as me. My cheque to him was also on a non-existent Swiss Bank.
