Yesterday’s Globe and Mail article, ‘Brace Yourself, Huntsville – The G8 is coming’, highlighted the buzz surrounding the recent announcement of the 3-day event in 2010. The Deerhurst Resort will be the venue but the date has not yet been announced, and cottage owners are speculating wildly on the rates they could charge for rental.
Real estate brokers and cottage rental agencies are already hearing from owners planning on renting out their homes and cottages for the duration of the Summit, and it’s likely there will be massive opportunities for boosting rental income. I would imagine the dignitaries and VIP’s will be hosted within the Deerhurst complex given the huge security issues, but no doubt the thousands of aides, support people, media folk, and lobbyists will be on the lookout for accommodation as soon as that date is released.
I’ll be following this one closely, and it was interesting in the research I did after hearing about the Summit, to see photos of previous G8s. If I had a cottage up there, I think I would be battening down the hatches, locking everything up, and leaving for Costa Rica.

Honestly, I am quite pleased to be 45 km away from Huntsville! This is a scary proposition. I think the safest bet would be the press, or government support staff, as they have a reputation to uphold, and would be there the longest.
I would carefully screen, as well. We like to get out of cottage country on the weekends! Holiday vacationers can be loud and obnoxious. The PWCs can be enervating. I cannot imagine how a professional protester would be! There are those who think the world owes them a living. We all work so hard to maintain our properties. We have inherited property from the days when land was $2000/ large lot. We are not rich and have learned to respect habitat and ecosystems.

I have a 4 bedroom home with a view of the building of the g8 media centre, I am looking to rent it to construction people or a group who need to be here starting this June. Anyone have any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!
