Thanks for flagging this up Heather; I love your pinboard - full of different angles and very professional looking. Already a friend with a vacation rental has seen it and commented on how useful it will be for his new ad. Most of us here could draw inspiration from it I think.

That's just it: I like the fact that you're helping others' interests and businesses as well as your own. Please may I have an invitation too?!

It would be a shame if we didn't take the learning point out of each situation that arises but I agree there is a lot of less than useful stuff and mostly self-serving stuff online. I'm glad you are finding my blog useful and thank you for your comment

Oh Margaret - that doesn't sound like real Canadians at all who are mostly the friendliest most laid-back people on the planet. Mind you, we get our share of serial complainers in our agency business here in Ontario so I know they are out there. It's tough at times to give the money back, but when these things occur it's often better to get it out of the way and put it down to experience.

Oh dear, this reminds me of the Canadian guests who booked 3 weeks in November here one year. (OK, with hindsight, you have to ask why?) We should have known there might be a problem when they told us they were experienced B&B owners who never found anywhere to rent which met their standards. We weren't actually there when they arrived, so a neighbour let them in - one hour before check in time - when we did arrive, they complained that the snow had not been cleared. This happened to be a day when it snowed like it was never going to stop. So snow clearing was scheduled for arrival time. Then they spent a day in a place not recommended in our file or anywhere else I have ever seen. (Nothing actually wrong with Plattling but nobody does anything else there but change trains!). When we did get back we were told, ominously, that they would speak to us the next day. When they did, they demanded a refund because there was too much snow, my reply 'it says on the website that November is when the snow arrives', her reply 'there is so much on your website, I can't be expected to read it all'. Upshot was they demanded a refund which we gave in the end for the same reason as above. They stayed an extra week (so it wasn't that bad) and made sure that the refund equalled the cost of the days they didn't use. They clearly had their next accommodation booked before they arrived. So, I agree, some guests have to be paid to go/stay way.

Congratulation Heather.
Having read both the diaries, I like the way you took an interesting diary of events (of which there are probably millions of blogs on the Internet) and added the Learning points to make it into a USEFUL blog (of which there are pitifully few)

Catherine - yes, there is always learning to be done - and sometimes it's so surprising what it is!

London vacation rentals - I think every owner needs to be a guest in another property to understand what their own guests experience and perceive. It can be an eye-opener

Heather - You are welcome - hope you enjoy part 2 as well
